Moon and Month
The month based on a complete
cycle of the Moon's phases from fullmoon to fullmoon, has been a unit of time
since earliest recorded history. The average time between fullmoons is 29 1/2
days.
"Blue Moon"
Owing to sulphur particles in the upper atmosphere from a forest fire covering
250,000 acres between Mile 103 and Mile 119 on the Alaska Highway in northern
British Columbia, Canada, the moon took on a bluish color, as seen from Great
Britain, on the night of Sept 26, 1950. The moon appeared green after the
Krakatoa eruption of Aug 27, 1883 (see Volcanoes) and in Stockholm for 3 min Jan
17, 1884.
